Export RTF
Summary
WriteItNow can save or export files as
RTF.

This is a very flexible format which can be loaded into
Word Processors such as Microsoft Word. Typically you will create a story in WriteItNow and when you are ready to
submit it to a publisher or need to preview it, use RTF export to create file which can be loaded into a word processor.
WriteItNow
can create
RTF files which are suitable for
submission to publishers.
When WriteItNow stories are saved as 'rtf' format they contain text information and layout information.
This layout information can be manipulated within WriteItNow. You have control over font types (e.g. arial, courier etc ),
sizes and styles (bold, italic and underline) plus page headers and footers, margin sizes, line spacing and paragraph formatting.
WriteItNow
cannot read in RTF files so you always need to
save stories in WriteItNow format.
How to Export in RTF Format
From the 'Export' menu choose 'RTF' or press CTRL+F8.
The following dialog is displayed.

From this select which sections of the story you want to export. These settings are stored.
Press the 'RTF Export' button to export as RTF.
This will create a file with the name of your story
and the suffix '.rtf'
If, for example your story is called 'The Lone Ranger', then a file called 'The Lone Ranger.rtf'
will be generated.
If you have an application associated with '.rtf' files, WriteItNow will now launch the application and load
'The Lone Ranger.rtf' into it. You can the edit and save this file.
Clicking the 'Reset' button will set all text output settings to their defaults.
Default Settings
The default settings have been chosen to match an editor's requirements. The manuscript is created with a cover page,
using a left, right and bottom margin of 1" and a top margin of 1.5". Each paragraph is left aligned. All first lines of paragraphs in each chapter (apart from the first paragraph)
are indented by 5 spaces. Line spacing is set to double. Headers and sub-headers use the Courier 12pt underlined font.
Normal text uses the Courier 12pt font. Main headers are followed by 2 blank lines. Pages are numbered from page 2 on the
to right-hand corner or the page. A word count is calculated and rounded to the nearest 1000 words.
By default a cover page is generated and this is followed by the text of each chapter.
These are fairly typical settings
for submitting a manuscript to a publisher. Click
here for more details.
You don't have to stick to these (although you probably should if you want to get published) and the option tabs let you control most output features.
Output Options
Use the 'Output Options tab to decide which parts of the story are exported as RTF.
Sections include the story overview, chapters, characters, events, locations, ideas, notes and records.
If the 'Cover Page' is selected this will be output before anything else.
The 'End of Story Marker' is a text string which can be centred after the end of the last chapter.
Traditionally this is
--The End-- or
##### or
*****
