Importing Stories
Stories from Other
Sources. E.g. MS Word
Often you have stories ayou've started in other programs and want to get them into WriteItNow.
To do this:
- Create a new story
- Create a blank chapter or scene for each chapter or scene
in your manuscript
- E.g. Go to the chapters tab and click on the '+' sign for
each chapter
- Import each chapter individually
The simplest way to do this is:
- Load your story into the original program (e.g. MS Word).
- With the mouse select the entire text of a chapter
- Copy it to the clip board (press CTRL+C on PC or Apple key
+ C on Mac)
- Go to the new blank chapter in WriteItNow
- Copy the text to WriteItNow (press CTRL+V or Apple key + V
on Mac)
- Repeat for each chapter
- Save
An alternative is to save each chapter of your original manuscript
separately as ascii text then import it.
Stories from
WriteItNow 3
Almost all version 3 stories should just load into 4. WriteItNow 4
converts them to version 4 format. Each story is in a single file. This
ends with '.wnw' E.g. 'my story.wnw'
If you installed each version to its default directory it's likely that
you have version 3 in c:\program files\writeitnow3 and version 4 in
c:\writeitnow4
Loading a
WriteItNow 3 Story into WriteItNow 4
- Run WriteItNow 4
- Go to the 'File' Menu
- Select 'Load'
- Find the version 3 story. This depends on where you saved
it. Usually it will be in
c:\program
files\writeitnow3
- Load the story. E.g. 'my story.wnw'
- Go to 'File' -> 'Save' and save the story with a new
name. E.g. 'my story v4.wnw'
It's probably best to save the new story in the directory where you
installed WriteItNow 4. Usually this is
'c:\writeitnow4'
Sometimes a version 3 story won't load. When this happens saving it as
unicode in version 3 (setup -> save as unicode) usually fixes
the
problem.
WriteItNow 3
Files that Will Not Load into 4.
- Run WriteItNow 3 and go 'Setup' and ensure that 'Save As
Unicode' is selected
- Load the WriteItNow 3 story
- Then save it. This will save the file in Unicode format.
This will still end in .wnw
- Run WriteItNow 4 and load the WriteItNow 3 story (as above)
