WriteItNow 4 Snapshots
WriteItNow can save a snapshot or revision of your story each time you
save it.
If necessary you can restore your story from any of
these snapshots.
Setting
Snapshot Details
Go to the '
Settings'
menu, choose '
Tool
Settings' and then '
Auto
Save Settings'

Set when you want Auto Save to occur and the maximum number
of snapshots you want to keep.
Each time WriteItNow saves it makes a copy or snapshot. If,
for
example, you set the maximum number of snapshots to keep to
20, then
WriteItNow will keep up to 20 snapshots. It will delete
older snapshots.
Restoring
A Story From a Snapshot
This shows 10 snapshots. The newest is snapshot 1 and
the oldest is snapshot 10. Click on any snapshot and
the following is shown:
If you click on 'Yes' the current story is replaced by the
selected snapshot.
Backing Up
Even if you have 100's of snapshots on your hard drive and no
back ups
and your hard drive
fails then you may lose everything.

Always make regular Back
Ups!
Some
Typical Examples
You could keep hundreds of snapshots but this may be
impractical.
Assuming a typical novel length story is about 250k. Then in a GB of
disk space you can save roughly 4,000 snapshots. This is many
more snapshots than you need.
If you set the software to Auto
Save every half hour and write for 8
hours a day for five days a week then you'll have roughly
4,000 snapshots in a year. The good news is that you could
then go back to
any version of your novel that you've written at any half hour point
over the past year.
Realistically you won't need so many snapshots. A better
plan is to set the Auto Save to
save every half hour and to keep 100 snapshots. You could then
restore from any snapshot created for the
last week or so. If you also back up your stories regularly then you
can get any snapshot of your novel.
On Windows XP use a tool like
CD
Burner XP for backups. This can be found
here.
